They had been co-chairs of the event the year before and that’s when the seeds of hatred were first planted. Gloria thought Darlene was tacky, and, truth be told, Darlene was not a cultured person. Gloria struggled to maintain civility and she mostly succeeded … until that night. No one knows what the last straw was and no one anticipated it, but it happened. Gloria shouted her down. They didn’t speak for 15 years after that.
